Sew Darn Crafty...Week 62

Sewing, quilting, knitting, cooking, painting, thrifting, recycling, vacationing or just family fun time...we want to see what you've been up to this week. Sew Darn Crafty is that place to share all your great posts and pictures.

So link away...

If you're NEW to Sew Darn Crafty, then grab a cup of something tasty, sit back and join in on the fun (starts Sunday and lasts all week long here at Sew Many Ways).

If you want to add the button to your blog's side bar or your list of parties that you're in each week...Click HERE for a tutorial for adding a button

WHAT IS A LINKING PARTY...

I subscribe to a linking service, which provides the ability to link thumbnail pictures on my blog. The picture is a link that other bloggers provide to share their projects.

Two things can happen at a linking party...looking and/or linking
  • you can be greatly inspired by wonderful projects, ideas or vacation pictures (looking) and/or
  • you can share what you've been up to (linking)
If you want to be inspired by all the great ideas...just click on a picture and it will take you to that post from a wonderful blogger who was willing to share her thoughts and ideas.

HOW AND WHAT TO LINK TO THE PARTY...

Sew Darn Crafty is all about YOU!! Show off your projects, share a tutorial, show us your vacation pictures, share a family favorite recipe...share anything. Not only does linking inspire us all, it also brings lots of new people to your blog for a visit. Click here for past parties and lots of inspiration

Easy steps to join in on the fun...

  • link up to the specific project post, not your whole blog. Makes it easier to link right to that post and not  search through all your entire blog. To find the http address to a specific post, just click on the Title of your post. Copy and paste the address that's at the top of your computer into the linky steps.
  • link as many projects as you'd like...old or new
  • anything goes...cooking, sewing, knitting, crafts, organizing, remodeling projects, vacations, parties etc...
  • visit other links to share some blogging love! You know we all love comments!
  • linking is open til Saturday night, so plenty of time to join in
  • just click the blue "click here to enter" button below and follow the easy steps

Have fun linking up! Don't forget to come back and take a look at all the great projects during the week

I'm Having A Sew Sew Saturday...Curtain Redo

I sewed, I sewed!!! Still working on Kelsie's pillow, but I finished the curtain redo.

My sister gave me curtains that were 63 inches long. Knowing the curtains were too short for my windows, she thought I could use the fabric to add accessories to our family room...pillows etc.

Instead, I chopped up the curtains, made them longer and added them to my existing curtains as ascent panels.

Here's how I did it...I used 2 short panels for 1 window.

Cut each curtain in half, length wise, so you have 4 parts.

Take the left side from one panel and the right of the other panel. This way when you lengthen them, you are using the hem from one and the top of the other and the already sewn side seams match.

In the picture below, I let down the hem on the left piece and took the hanging tabs off the other.

After figuring out the length I needed, I cut the needed bottom piece to length, adding one inch for seam allowance on each piece. I gave myself one inch to make sure I had enough if I made an error in measuring.

Sew the bottom piece (with the hem) to the top piece.

Finish the long side on the left if you want. I had 6 panels to make, so I cheated and left it alone. Shhhh, don't tell!

Here's the seam. You don't even see it with the busy floral patter. The pencil is where it is.

This is my secret for attaching the accent panels to my existing curtains. I didn't want to sew them onto my curtains just in case I want to change them out. I added a few paper clamps on the back of the curtains.

Here they are. The color in this photo was all wrong for the tans, but you get the idea for the panels.

Pillows match too!

Now for all those tabs I cut off...

I use rings for the curtains. All I had were silver rings, so I need to spray paint them black to match the others.

The tabs have finished edges, so all you need to do is fold them right sides together and sew a small seam.

Now you have Napkin Rings!! I also have enough fabric left over from adding the hemmed portion to the top, that I can make placemats!

Just added more to my "To Do" list with the placemat idea :(

Hope you had a "Sew Sew Saturday",

I'm Having A Sew Sew Saturday...Join Me?

Appointments...we have them for doctors, car repairs, hair coloring (I actually have one today!!), but we never make an appointment to sew. Well, I have designated Saturday as my "appointment" to have fun.

I do have time in my week to sew, but blogging, emails, making things for posts, roaming through Pinterest all seem to take up my free "fun" time. I need to make a point to sit down and sew!!

So here's my solution..."I'm Having a Sew Sew Saturday!!!" Get it? I'm not having a so so Saturday...I'm having a sew sew Saturday!!

However, I don't want to do this alone! I want you to join me too. Saturday seems to be a good day and here's my thinking...

  • I work during the week and week nights seem too short after dinner
  • Saturday afternoons or Saturday evenings seem to be calmer than Saturday morning
  • We can sew late into Saturday night and catch up on sleep somewhere on Sunday Lol
  • Saturday is great for friends to join you too. Have a Sew Sew Saturday Party!

Here are the fabrics I have an appointment with this Saturday...

The lime and black floral is fabulous fabric I bought at Walmart!! Yes, Walmart. They have great decorator weight fabric. These are going to be pillows for my daughter Kelsie's room.

This fabric is actually curtains that my sister gave me. I am chopping them up to fit my windows. We'll see how this goes.

Matches my brown couch and love the red accent in the flowers!

I will show you pictures later today to show you that I kept my appointment!!

Don't miss your appointment either. There may be a "No Show" fee...Lol !!!

Have a great Saturday,
~Karen~

Find a Friend Friday...

Woo Hoo!! It's Friday and that means Find a Friend Friday...the best linking party around to find a new blogging friend!! Well, I thinks it's great and it's all thanks to you!

Sometimes our days can be crazy and time for blogging is precious. What better way to find new blogs than here...all in one place!!

If you're new to FaFF, it's a simple linking party to add a link to your blog so friends, old and new, can stop by and visit.

Tell your blogging friends about the linking party and more will join in with us!

This is an easy one to participate in...you are just linking to your own blog. No projects to sew, no furniture to paint, no cookies to bake or pictures to take. You are just sharing your blog and then friends will stop by for a looksy.
  • click on "click here to enter"
  • copy and paste or just type in your blog address
  • enter title of link...your blog name or phrase to grab attention
  • add a photo of you, your profile picture or your blog button or whatever you think will grab some one's attention...(I'm thinking a picture of a big piece of strawberry cheese cake, but that just me LOL)

That's it...super easy. Just think of the possibilities of finding some wonderful blogs.

Thanks for participating,
~Karen~

Thoughts on Thursday...

The weather is getting warmer and you know what that means...

Walks on the beach, relaxing in the sun, cook outs with the family!

Now it's time for bathing suits, shorts and capri pants.

You know what that means for me...I have to shave above the ankle now!!

I know you're thinking the same thing Lol,

My husband and I made this impression in the sand a couple years ago. I still love the way the impression looks 3 dimensional.

Tool Time Tuesday...Creamer Pincushion Ring

I know what you're thinking...another crazy title. Creamer pincushion?? Yep, it's recycling time again. Tools used today...easy ones...scissors and glue gun!

We're going to be making this little cutie of a pincushion. On the left, the before. On the right, the after!

Here's the source for the ring! Cream. Cream for your coffee, whipping cream for your pies...whatever container has that tab.

You know those little pull tabs from inside the caps?

One day, I was pulling one off the container while talking with my girls. I was just chatting and playing with the tab in my hand as I talked and talked.

Slipped it on my finger and...BINGO!! My thoughts for Tool Time were flowing.

Look at that top portion. Perfect protection from the pins.

See...you can put in the pins and the plastic disc protects your finger.

So let's make one. You will need...
  • 2 1/2 inch square of fabric or scraps, plus a tiny piece of felt
  • the plastic ring from a creamer container
  • needle and thread
  • stuffing

Trace a circle on the 2 1/2 inch square.

Cut out...

Sew a running or gathering stitch around the circle...

Gather up the circle into a pouch...

and stuff with batting.

Before you pull the thread completely, add the plastic disc on top of the batting.

Pull the thread tightly to gather the fabric over the plastic disc.

I sewed a few tight stitches and knotted off in a couple spots to secure.

Cut a small circle from felt or wool. Something that won't fray.

Hot glue felt over stitches and gathered edges.

Pincushion Creamer Ring!!

Now that's my kind of bling!!

Here's another pincushion tutorial made with the cap of a creamer container or any cap for that matter!! Click here for that post.

You can also Click Here for all my pincushion posts.

Have fun making your pincushion ring. Enjoy your coffee too, because I know you're going to be using some cream just for that pull tab thingy.
