Last Chocolate Spray Painting Project...I Promise

I know...more chocolate spray painting, but it's Easter this Sunday and I'm trying to sneak in this one last project. You can click HERE and HERE for the other 2 posts if you missed them.

Chocolate anyone?

This is the before...for $1.00

Takes 2 thin coats of paint. Just spray the front...

the back and then each side for total coverage. I sprayed 2 thin coats.

So cute!

Great plastic eggs to hold treats...like money.

My 2 daughters in college love the money eggs!!

You can add candy too, but make sure the paint smell is completely gone.

Great for small toys and then package them in the egg carton.

You can also decorate with them too. A little nest with a confused chick..."did I come from a chocolate egg?"

Fun Easter grass...

Don't forget all the projects together!!

There's still time to paint...so HOP to it!! Lol

Have a great day,
~Karen~

Tool Time Tuesday...Spray Painting Easter Eggs

On Tuesdays, you'll always find something fun to make or some great "tool" to use. Well, today it's both. We will be spray painting Easter eggs with a great painting tool I've been using for a while. By the way, they are plastic Easter eggs, not the hard boiled kind!! Lol

Doesn't this egg look good enough to eat? Yummy chocolate? Nope...painted plastic Easter egg!

A jumbo plastic Easter egg from Walmart and my favorite paint...Krylon really sprays on nicely and looks great.

It's a big egg...great for decorating.

Here's the paint name. I've posted this color before for a bunny I painted. It's a satin finish.

OMG...it looks like it was just dipped in a chocolate fondue!!

These 2 part eggs are great for putting little gifties or treats in.

Here's the bunny I painted last year. Click HERE to see that post. They both make a cute arrangement.

I realized the egg has little holes on the front and back. Not sure why, but I took advantage of the situation.

Ribbon!!

Thread the wired edge ribbon through the holes.

and tie into a cute little bow.

Now the arrangement is all decked out for the holiday.

Here's the tool I was talking about. It's a spray can nozzle with a trigger.

Slides over the top of the can.

When you pull the trigger, the mechanism inside pushes the spray button.

Really saves your fingers and no messy paint on them either.

Have fun painting your eggs. Just make sure you tell people it's not real or they may take a bite out of it!!

This would be great to paint all the little plastic eggs too and display them in a pretty bowl or Easter basket.

Have a happy Tuesday,
~Karen~

Painting Brick...

I know...painting brick! Very scary to take that first stroke of the brush, but boy am I glad I did! Our family room was added to the house before we purchased our home. The lower level of the wall is a brick foundation, then the wall is set back a little to form a ledge. A lot for the eye to settle on. I lived with the two tone wall because I was afraid to paint the brick...no more though.

This "before" picture is last year...Christmas 2010. See the two colors...tan walls, beige brick and then tan radiators.

Here's the "after". This picture is this year...Christmas 2011. I didn't take this picture for this painting post, but you can see the difference in the walls behind the tree...much calmer for the eyes. The color flows evenly.

This is a close up of the before.

First step PRIMER. This was the AHHHHH!! moment when there was no turning back.

Roll on the primer with a thicker roller so it gets into all the grooves.

When I painted with the tan paint, I did use a brush for the mortar areas to make sure it covered well.

Here's the after...much better all one color!

Kind of makes that ledge wall disappear a little. Well, not really disappear, but it helps!

If you've been contemplating painting brick...just to let you know...I'm so glad I did it!!

Happy Painting,
~Karen~

Belt Makeover and Flower Tutorial...

Being frugal with 2 girls in college is a way of life right now. Doing simple projects to spice things up is easy.

Here's a new look for an old belt...add a matching flower and we're good to go!!

I liked the belt, but don't wear much pink...

All you need is some kind of glue and fabric. I used  spray glue, but Mod Podge would work great too...even just white glue.

I traced the belt buckle on paper.

and trimmed to fit.

Used that for a pattern for the fabric.

I sprayed the back of the fabric with the glue not the belt buckle.

Use a plastic sandwich baggie to press the fabric. Spray glue is very sticky.

Now for the flower...I just cut 8 three inch circles of the same belt fabric and one smaller circle out of felt. You will also need one pin back and hot glue.

You can buy large packages of the pin backs at the craft store if you are going to make flowers for gifts.

I pinched 4 circles with the right side of the fabric in...

and 4 circles pinched with the right side of fabric out.

I gathered up the 4 with the right side in...

and whipped stitched the 4 of them together at the point.

Here are the 4 with the fabric for the center of the flower.

Now place the 4 circles with the right side of the fabric on the outside around the first bunch. Whip stitch the points together again.

All stitched together.

Now take your smaller felt circle and punch little holes the size of your pin back.

Place the pin back through the holes with the back flat part of the pin on the back of the circle.

Hot glue the whole unit to the bottom of the flower.

Belt and matching flower pin!! Fast and easy!

Go through your closet and see what you can spruce up for FREE!!!
